Tennessee's first legal cannabis restaurant is coming to ...

06-04-2022 · 13 hours ago · Craft Cannabis founder Michael Solomon is expanding his cannabis empire with the addition of a soon-to-open restaurant. Buds & Brews, an innovative, Germantown-based eatery on 1246 3rd Ave. N., is slated for a spring 2022 opening. Tennessee’s first cannabis bar and restaurant will have an American sports theme.

The restaurant will serveclassic meals that can be enhanced with legal, hemp-derived THC condiments that Solomon considers high-end.

"...our extraction process is solventless — like it’s fresh squeezed," he said.

But what does it taste like?

Using a coffee analogy, Solomon likens hemp to decaf and marijuana to its caffeinated counterpart. Condiments, which are manufactured and pre-sealed off-site, are designed to be mixed together.

“We took the 25 most commonly used condiments, and we infused all of them,” Solomon said.

Sweet treats and mocktails, like the popular smokey margarita, will also be available.

Mastered in California; Founded in Tennessee

Solomon, who was born and raised in Middle Tennessee, started the seed-to-shelf cannabis business Craft Cannabis after his job took him to California, where he gained experience in cannabis cultivation. There, he worked at the dispensary, Green Goddess Collective, and became a licensed medical grower.

In 2017, Solomon returned to the Volunteer State. The following year, the Hemp Farming Act of 2018 was passed, allowing industrial hemp that has a THC concentration of no more than 0.3% to classify as legal.

Craft Cannabis creates one-of-kind cannabis products in its network, operating with full transparency that Solomon is proud of.

“We are a grower, manufacturer and retailer," he said.

"We grow hemp, and we extract it, and we sell it.”

By 2019, Craft Cannabisbirthed "The Holistic Connection"retail brand.

“We grew over 1000% percent in 18 months,” Solomon added.

The Holistic Connection currently has brick and mortar stores across in Middle Tennessee, with plans to expand in less than two years to 17 additional locations, including Atlanta, Chattanooga, Franklin, Knoxville, Lenox Village, Midtown, Nashville and Rivergate.

The brownies and edibles audience

Solomon hopes to give Nashville residents and tourists, experienced or new to cannabis, a safe and legal place to enjoy and experiment with different tastes.

Buds & Brews took approximately a year and a half to launch. Early in this process, Solomon and his business partners analyzed the constant demand for edibles, suspecting it would be an indicator for the eatery's success.

They're eager this spring to find out.

Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) stock shot higher in after-hours trading on some big news. Following in the footsteps of other Silicon Valley giants, the e-commerce company said it would enact a 20-for-1 stock split. So when is the Amazon stock split date? And what will this ultimately mean for AMZN stock?

Source: Sundry Photography /

Today, investors learned this big news via a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). In it, Amazon shared that its board of directors approved a 20-for-1 stock split.

What does this actually mean for AMZN stock? Essentially, after the stock split, any investor who held one share of AMZN would then have 20 shares. Using today’s closing price, that would also mean that one share would go from ,785.58 to 9.28.

Stock splits are not entirely uncommon. In fact, Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOG, NASDAQ:GOOGL) announced one of its own in February 2022. Companies can break up higher-priced shares, ultimately making them more accessible to investors. You can read more about the Google stock split here.

Beyond changing the share price, investors should note that the stock split will not have other fundamental impacts on AMZN stock.

When Is the Amazon Stock Split Date?

One big question that many AMZN stock fans likely have is when is the Amazon stock split date?

According to the SEC filing, shareholders will actually need to approve the stock split first. They will have a chance to vote on it during an annual meeting on May 25, 2022. If all goes well, there will be a few other key dates to watch.

The first will be May 27, 2022, which will serve as the record date. That means if you want to participate in the stock split, you must own AMZN stock by May 27. Individual accounts will start to update to reflect the stock split by June 3, 2022. Finally, AMZN will start trading on what is called a split-adjusted basis by June 6, 2022. That is when investors will start to notice the lower share price.

What Will Happen to AMZN Stock?

Investors seem to like the news, as AMZN stock is moving higher in after-hours trading. They may also be reacting positively to a second update in the SEC filing. Wall Street also learned on Wednesday that the board of directors has approved a measure to repurchase up to billion in Amazon stock.

Keep a close eye on Amazon and its Big Tech peers over the coming days. There is already speculation brewing about which companies could split their stocks next.

Is a 4th Stimulus Check Coming? Federal and State ...

With little immediate relief from the federal government in sight in response to record inflation, some states are taking matters into their own hands. Ten states will send—or have already sent—one-time payments to taxpayers in the coming months.

Unlike previous pandemic relief measures, these payments are much more targeted and with considerably lower dollar amounts. That’s not because governments have developed a stingy streak. Rather, it’s more about helping Americans weather rising prices without making inflation worse.

“Plans focused on specific sectors or groups, such as gas cards or disbursements based on income thresholds, in theory could help ease the pain caused by prices of specific goods or services…without putting as much pressure on prices more broadly,” says Andrew Patterson, senior international economist at Vanguard.

Here’s how the federal and state governments plan to bring taxpayers relief in a world of surging prices.

0 Per Month Federal Energy Rebate Payment

In March, Reps. Mike Thompson (D-CA), John Larson (D-CT) and Lauren Underwood (D-IL) introduced the Gas Rebate Act of 2022. While in its early stages, the Act would send energy rebate payments of 0 per month to eligible taxpayers and offer an additional 0 per dependent.

Payment eligibility would be structured similarly to previous stimulus payments. Married filers filing jointly with incomes up to 0,000 and single filers earning up to ,000 would receive the full payment, with phase-out levels for higher incomes.

The legislation would need to make its way through Congress before payments can begin. It hasn’t yet been discussed at the committee level.

Approved State Stimulus and Rebate Check Programs

Ten states have already approved legislation to get tax rebates flowing to their residents. Here’s how those payments are coming along:

Colorado: 0 Rebate Payments

Colorado intends to send payments of at least 0 to taxpayers this year, after Gov. Jared Polis signed a bill in late May.

The exact amount depends on state revenue totals, but lawmakers expect every full-time resident who files a 2021 tax return before June 30 will receive a payment in September.

Delaware: 0 Relief Rebate Payments

In May, Delaware started sending “relief rebate” payments of 0 to taxpayers who have filed their 2020 state tax return. The one-time payment is possible due to a budget surplus.

Taxpayers can expect to receive a check by mail by the end of May. If you filed jointly with a spouse, each person will receive 0.

Instructions to claim the rebate haven’t yet been released for residents who haven’t filed a 2020 state tax return.

Residents can check your rebate status or get answers to frequently asked questions from the Delaware Department of Finance.

Georgia: 0 Rebate Payments

Thanks to a historic state budget surplus, Georgia residents who have filed both their 2020 and 2021 tax returns will be eligible to receive rebate payments based on their tax filing status:

  • Single filers: Maximum 0
  • Head of household: Maximum 5
  • Married filing jointly: Maximum 0

If you owe income tax or other payments to the state such as delinquent child support payments, you may receive a smaller rebate. Partial-year residents may also receive a smaller rebate.

Residents who filed their taxes before Gov. Brian Kemp signed the legislation will receive their rebates via a separate payment.

Georgia taxpayers can learn more via the Georgia Department of Revenue.

Hawaii: 0 Rebate Payments

In January, Gov. David Ige proposed sending a tax rebate to every Hawaii taxpayer. Taxpayers earning less than 0,000 per year would receive 0, and those earning more than 0,000 per year would receive 0. Dependents are eligible for the rebate, too.

The Hawaii legislature has approved the rebate, but details for distribution haven’t been released. Payments may begin processing in late August, per the state Department of Taxation.

Idaho: Rebate Payments

In February, Idaho Gov. Brad Little signed a bill that allocates 0 million for tax rebates to Idahoans. There are two criteria for eligibility:

The payments began in March. Each taxpayer will receive either or 12% of your 2020 Idaho state taxes, whichever is greater (check Form 40, line 20 for your tax amount reported). The rebate is applicable to each individual taxpayer and each dependent.

The tax commission will first issue rebates to taxpayers who received refunds via direct deposit, then send paper rebate checks.

State residents can also check the status of their rebate online.

Indiana: 5 Rebate Payments

Like Georgia, Indiana found itself with a healthy budget surplus at the end of 2021. In Dec. 2021, Gov. Eric Holcomb announced that Indiana taxpayers will get a 5 one-time tax refund after they file their 2021 taxes.

There’s no income requirement. Residents must have filed a state tax return for the year 2020 by Jan. 3, 2022, as well as a 2021 Indiana tax return by April 18, 2022, to be eligible. Payments started in May and are expected to continue through mid-summer, according to a state information page.

Taxpayers who file jointly will receive a single deposit of 0.

Most taxpayers will receive their additional refund by direct deposit. If you changed banks or don’t have direct deposit information on file, you’ll receive a paper check in late summer.

For more information, visit the state Department of Revenue website. More information will be added for taxpayers who don’t receive their payment by Sept. 1.

Maine: 0 Direct Relief Payments

Governor Janet Mills signed a supplemental budget on April 20 to authorize direct relief payments of 0 for Maine taxpayers. Full-time residents with a federal adjusted gross income of less than 0,000 (0,000 if filing as head of household, 0,000 for couples filing jointly) are eligible. Couples filing jointly will receive one relief check per taxpayer for a total of ,700.

Taxpayers are eligible for the payment regardless of whether they owe income tax to the state.

Residents who did not file a state tax return for 2021 can file through Oct. 31 to claim their payment.

The one-time payments, which are being funded by the state’s surplus, are scheduled to be delivered by mail starting June 1 to the address on your 2021 Maine tax return.

The supplemental budget also includes an increased benefit for Maine’s Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) recipients.

New Jersey: 0 Rebate Checks

In fall of 2021, Gov. Phil Murphy and the New Jersey state legislature approved budget measures to send one-time rebate checks of up to 0 to nearly 1 million families.

Now, Murphy has proposed earmarking an additional million to send 0 payments to those who file taxes using a taxpayer identification number instead of a Social Security number. These newly eligible people would include nonresident and resident aliens, their spouses and dependents.

New Mexico: 0 Rebates

In early March, Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham signed a law to send multiple rebates to state taxpayers.

Taxpayers earning under ,000 annually (under 0,000 for joint filers) will receive a rebate of 0 (0 for joint filers). The rebate will be issued in July and sent automatically to taxpayers who filed a 2021 state return.

Another rebate will be issued to all taxpayers. Single filers will receive 0, and joint filers will receive ,000. This rebate will be split into two equal payments, delivered in June and August 2022. The funds will be sent automatically to taxpayers who filed a 2021 state return.

A taxpayer earning under ,000 annually could potentially receive up to 0 with the combined rebates.

Residents who don’t file income tax returns will also receive a rebate in July. Single individuals without dependents will receive 0; households with married couples or single adults with dependents will get ,000.

If you file your 2021 state income tax return by May 31, 2023, you’ll receive your rebate by direct deposit or check. If you owe tax from your 2021 return, it will be deducted from your rebate amount.

Residents who don’t file taxes and aren’t dependents of another taxpayer can apply for a relief payment at YesNM.

Minnesota: 0 Payment for Frontline Workers

Some frontline workers will receive a one-time payment of 0, thanks to a bill signed by Gov. Tim Walz in early May. The application process to claim this payment had not yet been launched.

Walz also proposed using the state’s .25 billion budget surplus to fund a generous relief package, proposing that Minnesotans receive tax rebate checks of 0 per person. But his proposal didn’t make it into either party’s tax relief plans put forth in April, and the state’s legislative session for the year ends in May.

Pending State Gas Rebate and Stimulus Programs

While not yet approved by their state legislatures and signed into law, nine states have introduced legislation for gas rebates, direct stimulus check payments, grocery tax cuts and income tax rebates for their residents.

With gas prices soaring on the west coast, Gov. Gavin Newsom has advocated for a gas rebate for Californians. Though his exact plan to send 0 to vehicle owners stalled, state Democrats are proposing other ways to get money into Californians’ pockets, including sending 0 to each taxpayer with adjusted annual income of less than 0,000. Households with children would receive 0 per child as well.

Newsom’s revised budget proposal, unveiled on May 13, also includes cash payments of ,500 to residents who work in hospitals and nursing facilities.

Gov. Laura Kelly proposed a one-time tax rebate of 0 (0 for married couples filing jointly) for Kansas residents who filed a 2020 state tax return. But the rebate, to be paid for with a state budget surplus, wasn’t finalized before the state legislative session ended.

The Kentucky Senate approved a billion rebate for the state’s taxpayers thanks to the state’s budget surplus. While the legislation is still moving through the state legislature in conjunction with a broader income tax package, eligible Kentuckians will receive a one-time payment of up to 0 and up to ,000 per household if it passes.

The highly-contested state’s gubernatorial race means there are multiple proposals floating around Pennsylvania to help ease inflation by cutting the state’s 57.6 cents per gallon gas tax. While that political race plays out, current governor Tom Wolf has asked Congress, along with several other Democratic governors, to repeal the national 18.4 cents per-gallon gas tax through the end of 2022.

Pennsylvania also has legislation pending that would provide up to 0 million in direct assistance to help families pay for expenses like childcare and household expenses.

With a .6 billion budget surplus, Gov. Glenn Youngkin has advocated putting some of that money back into Virginians’ pockets. There are two bills in the state legislature aimed at reducing or eliminating the state’s 2.5% grocery tax. Additional legislation looks to suspend the state’s 26.2 cents per-gallon gas tax for a period of one year.

What’s Next for Gas Stimulus Checks?

Even with all these measures making their way through various legislatures, Americans remain crunched between what they need and what they can afford.

And while rebates and gas stimulus checks can help buffer the blow of rising prices, there are those who remain leery of sending out additional payments, especially with past pandemic relief programs believed to have contributed to our current rate of inflation.

Dr. Jaime Peters, assistant dean and assistant professor of finance at Maryville University explains that for some lawmakers, “inflation-related stimulus payments will simply feed the beast,” putting even more money into the market where the supply of goods can’t meet demand.

This creates a conundrum for families who are coming up short on the supply of funds to get the goods they need each day.

How I Raised My Credit Score by 84 Points in One Month by ...

It was good, but I wanted it to be excellent.

Earlier this year, I noticed that a late payment had dragged my credit score down to the low 700s: above average for my age, but below the top range that creditors — especially mortgage lenders — reward with the best interest rates and terms.

Repairing a damaged credit score can take a while. As I quickly learned, my late payment would stay on my credit report for seven years, weighing down my score the whole time. It can also be costly. Credit repair companies take advantage of the somewhat opaque process to charge unnecessary fees for spotting and disputing negative items on your credit report.

But I was able to make two moves, each of them free and together requiring about one hour of work, that boosted my credit score by 84 points in one month — and by over 100 points in total over the course of 2021.

Here’s how I did it, and how you might be able to do it, too — including a template letter you can adapt that helped me erase my late payment from my credit report.

If you’re in serious debt, have a complicated situation, or simply need individualized advice, look into free or low-cost non-profit credit counselors.

1. I Wrote a ‘Goodwill Letter’

Missed or late payments are a surefire way to bring down your credit, since payment history is the most influential factor on your score. It accounts for 35% of your FICO score, the scoring method most commonly used by lenders.

In April, after opening a new line of credit to pay for some dental work, I discovered that I had missed a payment due in January — making it late by several months. Daunted by the prospect of paying the price for seven years (the amount of time a reported delinquency like a late payment remains on your report), I looked for ways to reverse the error more quickly.

I wrote what’s called a goodwill letter, basically a polite way to ask your lender to change the way it reports certain behavior to the three credit bureaus in charge of compiling credit reports. Your lender is by no means obligated to agree to this request, and in fact banks are required by law to report accurate information to credit reporting agencies. Some, including Chase and Bank of America, state on their websites they will not make goodwill adjustments for late payments.

But anecdotal evidence suggests at least some creditors are willing to adjust for late payments.  If you can demonstrate that you’ve been a responsible customer in the past and provide a credible explanation, it’s worth a shot. The worst they can do is say no.

I wrote a goodwill letter in about 30 minutes after reading stories online from others who had found success. In it, I explained how my late payment had been the result of opening a card with a new bank and failing to keep track of how to make payments on the account.

On April 30, I logged into my account on the bank’s website and sent this:

[My Name]

[My Address]

[My Account Number]

Hi there,

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. I’m grateful to be your customer.

I’m writing because I noticed that my most recent credit report contains a late payment reported in January 2021 for my [name of bank] financing loan.

I want you to know that I understand my financial obligations, and I take my commitments seriously. Apart from this one late payment, I have an excellent repayment record for all of my debts.

The reason I made a late payment is that I did not receive my [name of bank] card in the mail. I recently moved to a new home, and the card was sent to my old address. I had mail forwarding in place, but somehow the letter did not reach me. As such, I did not have my account number and was not able to set up an account online. Therefore, I missed my reminder to pay my January 2021 payment.

As soon as I realized this error, I contacted [Bank] via phone on April 20 to explain the situation and to order a replacement [Bank] card. (Confirmation number of my request: #123456789). My replacement card arrived in the mail on April 28, and I immediately activated my online account and enabled auto-pay so that I will never miss a payment again.

I’m planning to apply for a mortgage soon, and it’s come to my attention that the missed payment on my record will hurt my ability to qualify. I truly believe that this one late payment does not reflect my creditworthiness and commitment to repaying my debts.

It would help me immensely if you could give me a second chance and make a goodwill adjustment to remove the late payment for January 2021 from my credit report.

Thank you for your consideration. I hope you’ll approve my request.

[My name]

Three weeks later, on May 21, I got an email alert that there was a new communication waiting for me in my account inbox. Bingo. It read:

Dear [My Name],

Thank you for contacting us regarding your [Bank name] account.

We have submitted a request to the major credit bureaus to delete any delinquency that occurred from 12/18/2020 to 01/19/2021. Please note that it may take up to 60 days for the credit bureaus to update their records.

We value your business. Our experienced team of Customer Care Specialists are ready to help if you need further assistance.

Between April and May, my credit score jumped 84 points, from 724 to 808.

After I missed a credit card payment due in January, my credit score fell to a low of 724 in March. But two moves I made in April helped me raise by 84 points in a month. Then, my score fluctuated as I used varying amounts of my credit line—and requested another credit line increase at the end of the year.

2. I Requested a Credit Line Increase

I don’t know exactly how much of that 84-point rise was due to my goodwill letter. Because in the same month, I made another free and fast move to improve my credit.

This time, I focused on the next biggest factor that goes into credit score weightings: credit utilization ratio. It’s a way of comparing the amount of money you owe compared to the total amount of credit you have access to. For example, if you have ,000 of credit card debt, and your total credit line is ,000, you have a credit utilization ratio of 10%. The lower your ratio, the better. It accounts for 30% of your FICO score.

Apart from the new credit card I opened and promptly missed a payment on, I typically use just one card: a simple cash back card with no annual fee. It serves my needs well, so in the seven years I’ve had it, I haven’t thought about it much beyond paying off my balance in full every month.

But as I picked apart my credit score and the factors that go into it, I realized that I could improve my utilization ratio by increasing the credit limit on my card.

To increase your line of credit, all you have to do is ask. My bank has a feature on its website where you can request a credit line increase online. I pulled it up, input some information including my employment status, my estimated yearly income, and the amount of my requested increase.

I hit submit, expecting it would begin some sort of review process. But I was wrong. On the next screen, I was notified that my credit line had instantly more than doubled.

If you have a good history of paying your credit card bills, know you’ll use the credit line extension responsibly, and are earning more money than you were the last time your credit limit was assessed, you might be able to increase your credit limit too.

Some issuers automatically grant credit line increases after a certain time period or regularly check if you’re eligible for one. Read your card agreement and terms for more information.

A few months later, with my credit score comfortably in the low 800s, I decided to push my luck and ask for another credit line increase. Again, it was instant: in about 15 minutes, I increased my credit line again, this time by another 50%.

By November, my score had hit a new high: 824. Now, it was excellent.

Bottom Line

Credit scores don’t matter until suddenly they do — like when you want to buy a home, take out a loan, or apply for a credit card.

I was able to significantly raise my score in just a month, but that was mostly thanks to my long track record of paying my bills on time. In truth, building a great credit score is about making responsible financial moves over a long period of time.

Start as soon as you can. It’s up to you to check and monitor your credit, fix any errors you may find, and learn about the factors that go into your credit score so that you can take steps now to raise it.

As for me, I’ll check my credit report every few months and keep an eye on my credit utilization ratio, especially if my financial situation changes. But I won’t be writing any more goodwill letters — because I don’t plan on missing any more payments.

When Is The Next Stimulus Check Coming 2021

08-02-2022 · Biden’s American Rescue Plan Act, which created the third stimulus checks, did boost tax credits for most parents with children under 18, but only for the year 2021. Most parents and legal guardians will receive a tax credit of ,600 for children under six, and ,000 per child aged six through 17.

Who Is Eligible For The Stimulus Check For Social Security Beneficiaries

The House of Representatives passed the Build Back Better Act back on Friday, November 19, and this includes some benefits for seniors, although there is no sign of a stimulus check.

Medicare will be expanded to include hearing services, while government have more power when it comes to negotiating drug prices with pharmaceutical companies, but this bill is not going to be passed in the Senate ahead of 2022.

This is because Democrat Sen. Joe Manchin has declared that he will not be supporting the Build Back Better bill, which means that the millions of people that it supports are now left in the lurch. While there is progress expected in 2022, the .9 trillion bill has still not been given the green light.

Do People Need A Fourth Stimulus Check

According to CNBC, there is a case for a fourth stimulus check that goes beyond the calls from lawmakers. The Economic Security Project, a progressive organization that advocates for guaranteed income no matter what the state of the economy, says there’s a need for more stimulus checks.

We need at least one more check, said Adam Ruben.

Ruben, the campaign director at the Economic Security Project, also said that stimulus checks should be “automatic,” and not stalled as they were last summer when second stimulus check negotiations caused a long gap between the ,200 and 0 payments.

There are signs of recovery, though. The June jobs report showed a gain of 850,000, which was better than expected, according to The New York Times. That’s the strongest one-month gain since last summer.

Likewise, the Commerce Department said that gross domestic product had grown at an annualized rate of 6.5% for April through June of 2021, surpassing the figure it had reached before the pandemic, the Washington Post reported. However, that was less than the 8% GDP growth some economists had forecast.

Regardless, certain lawmakers are pushing for relief.

This unprecedented moment demands an unprecedented response. People dont only need relief, they need stability, certainty, and predictability and the ABC Act delivers them exactly that,” said Rep. Pramila Jayapal .

However, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky, didn’t appear to agree.

Irs Tax Refunds Will Be Sent Out This Week

When Is The Next Stimulus Check Coming 2021 ...

The IRS has been battling through a huge backlog of unprocessed tax returns which reportedly reached 35 million in May, while also sending out stimulus checks and Child Tax Credit payments. As a result this has led to delays in other facets of the IRS’ work, with tax refund recipients facing long delays.

However the tax agency has announced that on Friday they expect to make a wave of 4 million tax refund payments. Many of these are for unemployment benefits recipients who overpaid tax on support received during 2020.

The IRS has begun distributing the first payment of the Child Tax Credit, which are expected to arrive in recipients’ bank account on 15 July or shortly after if the tax authority sent them a physical check.

This distribution structure is new and was implemented after the passage of the American Rescue Plan. Rather than receiving the credit with a tax refund, families will be paid monthly through December. The remaining balance of the credit will be claimed when taxes are filed next year. Who will be getting the lucrative new payments and how much could it be worth to my family?

Fourth Stimulus Check Update

Biden’s American Rescue Plan Act, which created the third stimulus checks, did boost tax credits for most parents with children under 18, but only for the year 2021. Most parents and legal guardians will receive a tax credit of ,600 for children under six, and ,000 per child aged six through 17.

Half of that credit is coming in the form of monthly advance payments to parents beginning July 15 0 per month for younger kids, and 0 for older ones. That’s similar to the monthly recurring checks that some legislators have called for.

The same law also retroactively exempted a large chunk of unemployment benefits paid out in 2020 from federal income tax. People who collected unemployment in 2020 and paid tax on it are getting thousands of dollars in tax-refund checks.

The American Rescue Plan Act also offers tax credits that cover all or most of the cost of a “Silver” health-insurance plan for six months under the Affordable Care Act, aka Obamacare. You’re eligible for this if you filed for unemployment benefits at any time in 2021, and if you don’t currently get health insurance through Medicare, Medicaid or someone else’s health plan.

Biden’s American Families Plan, which is separate from the American Jobs Plan, will seek to extend those tax credits, including the advance payments, through the end of 2025.

The American Families Plan would also mandate up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave and subsidies for childcare.

How To Claim Your Child Tax Credit Money If You Had A Newborn Or Adopted Since Last Filing Taxes

If you had a baby by the end of December — or adopted one — you’ll be eligible for up to ,600 for that child when you file your taxes. That includes back pay for the July through December advance payments and the chunk coming with your refund.

You should get that money when you claim your child on your tax return, which will let the IRS know about your household changes.

What Will The Child Tax Credit Payment Look Like

The IRS has spent the last four months developing an enormous distribution system designed to get the Child Tax Credit payments out to the roughly 35 million eligible families. Next round of California stimulus checks coming as early as next week

The Biden administration is looking at prolonging the expandedChild Tax Credit into 2022. Changes to CTC were made as part of the American Rescue Plan. The first payments will go out to day and run monthly until December. However, the president is hoping to extend CTC for four years, until 2025 and eventually make it permanent. “There’s no disagreement on that the ultimate goal is for this to go on indefinitely,” a senior official explained.

How to Make a Venmo Account Without Your Phone Number ...

25-03-2022 · Venmo accounts can be created through a mobile app or a website, and users must supply basic information as well as one or more bank accounts. To use Venmo, a valid email address and an American phone number are both needed. Recipients of transactions can be found via phone number, Venmo username or email address.

register venmo without your phone number

Whenever you need to make a new Venmo account, you have to use a phone number to verify it, as Venmo’s policy for signing up has said, number registration reduces the number of spam accounts. What if you’ve already registered one account with your only number but need to make a second? What if you don’t want to register with your real number for safety reasons? If you’d like to know the possible answers, please read on.

What is Venmo?

Venmo is a mobile payment service owned by PayPal. People who have Venmo accounts can transfer funds to others via a mobile phone app, but only if both the sender and the receiver live in the United States.

Venmo accounts can be created through a mobile app or a website, and users must supply basic information as well as one or more bank accounts. To use Venmo, a valid email address and an American phone number are both needed. Recipients of transactions can be found via the phone number, Venmo username or email address.

Users have a Venmo balance which is used for their transactions. They may link their Venmo accounts to their bank accounts, debit cards or credit cards; otherwise, users can order a Venmo MasterCard and pay through it. Paying with a bank account or debit card is free, while payments via credit card have a 3% fee for each transaction. If a user’s account is insufficiently funded at the time of a transaction, the money will be automatically withdrawn from the user’s registered bank account or card.

In Venmo, cash transfers are not instantaneous and can be revoked after they’ve been made. Similar to traditional wire transfers, they can take one to three business days to become done.

In addition, Venmo has the instant transfer feature, allowing users to deposit funds to their debit cards in as short as 30 minutes. Each transfer is subject to a charge of 1% or , whichever is less. There is no charge for the standard bank transfer (which takes 1-3 business days to complete).

Can Venmo Be Used Without a Phone Number?

Sadly, no!

According to the privacy policy of Venmo, one has to use his/her phone number to verify a new account. Therefore, whether you want to sign up for a personal or business account, the account cannot be successfully registered unless you provide your phone number to Venmo. So here comes a question: for those who already have an account but want to create one or more due to some reasons, how can they register the rest accounts without sufficient numbers?

While you know everyone should comply with Venmo’s policy, there are still several ways to register for Venmo without your real number: you can either spend a lot of money buying a burner phone (which expires after 1-3 months), or try to get a vanity number at a lower price. To get a cheap 2nd number, number apps like CoverMe are strongly recommended. What you can benefit from those apps is that you can easily obtain one or more numbers freely or at a pretty low price within just a few minutes.

Why isn’t Your Own Number Suggested for Venmo?

Although nearly all the internet giants have announced that they’re taking action to protect users’ privacy and information security, massive information leakage still happens every minute. Do you still remember Facebook’s data leakage a few months ago? About 530 million people have had some personal information leaked, including, in some cases, phone numbers. So now it seems that consumers don’t trust big companies anymore, regardless of whether these companies intend to sell the collected users’ information or inadvertently leak it. See? If you use your own number to register a Venmo account, this number could be unsafe.

Can You Have Two Venmo Accounts with the Same Phone Number?

This is a question that is frequently asked about the Venmo account. The answer is: yes, it is very much possible to have and subsequently add a second Venmo account. To add a second account with the same phone number, all you need to do is to add a new bank account and select the same number option. However, if you have a business and want a separate account for your business, you may need another phone number to create a Venmo account.

How To Bypass Venmo’s Phone Verification without Your Phone Number?

When you need to make a Venmo account without your private number, you may think of the following four methods. You should compare these methods carefully before choosing one that suits you most and practices it.

Buying a Burner Phone

A burner phone is a prepaid mobile phone that you can destroy or discard when you no longer need it (of course it will not link to your personal identity after expiration). Usually, when you’re watching crime movies, you can see criminals or villains use their burner phones to avoid any detection. It is the most popular way for avoiding Venmo’s number registration policy, but in the meantime, buying a burner phone only for account registration seems to be extravagant. For those who don’t know the best choices in the following paragraphs, they can just buy a burner phone available at most large stores.

Google Voice Phone Number

A majority of people come up with the idea of using Google Voice number for the registration of Venmo. Theoretically, it is possible, and a few years ago someone has registered with Google Voice number successfully, but now it seems that this approach is unfeasible due to some unknown reasons, as we have tried and failed several times.

Use 2nd Phone Number App like CoverMe

Apart from Google Voice, there are several 2nd phone number apps that can still generate practical numbers. A great app you can use for Venmo registration is CoverMe. This app has the basic feature of a burner phone, for it offers users a disposable number that you can use to sign up for a Venmo account.

Receive SMS via Website

There is another way to bypass Venmo’s phone verification without providing your real number, that is, to use the Receive SMS website (which is totally free). This website allows you to receive voicemails as well as text messages from all around the world. And it also has no restriction on the number of texts you may receive each day.

Go to the Receive SMS website and try it:

  • Venmo can’t be used without a number, but there are several ways to register accounts without using your real number.
  • For safety reasons, your personal number is not suggested for Venmo.
  • There are generally four ways to register Venmo accounts without your real number.
Zelle Vs. Venmo: Which To Use And When

These days, cash apps let you move money about as quickly as you can spend it. Two of the most popular apps are Zelle and Venmo. But while they’re both members of the family of cash apps, they’re more like cousins than twins. Each app works differently and each might work out better for you than the other.

In the Zelle-vs.-Venmo competition, one app isn’t the clear winner. The victor in this competition depends on what you’re looking for in a mobile payment app.

How Does Zelle Work?

Zelle (rhymes with sell) is a peer-to-peer or person-to-person app that enables you to send money quickly from your bank account to anybody you pick. Typically, Zelle capabilities are built into an app from a bank or credit union. More than 1,000 banks and credit unions in the U.S. offer Zelle within their apps.

In 2020, Zelle users sent 7 billion through 1.2 billion transactions. Zelle’s technology comes from Early Warning Services LLC, owned by seven major U.S banks: Bank of America, BB&T (now Truist), Capital One, JPMorgan Chase, PNC Bank, U.S. Bank and Wells Fargo.

You must have a U.S. checking or savings account to use Zelle. Zelle doesn’t charge fees to use its service.

Once you’re enrolled with Zelle, you just need an email address or U.S. mobile phone number to send money directly from a banking app to friends and family. Zelle says its app “can be used to send money to almost anyone you know and trust with a bank account in the U.S.”

You also can sign up with Zelle through its app if it’s not available from your financial institution. You’ll need to download the app from the App Store or Google Play and then enter your mobile number and the number of either a Visa or Mastercard debit card.

No matter which route you go, you’ll enter the amount you want to send in the app. If the recipient has already signed up with Zelle, the money will appear within minutes in their bank account. If they’re not yet enrolled in Zelle, they’ll be notified about how to obtain the money. It may take one to three business days before someone gets the money after enrolling in Zelle.

Aside from sending and receiving money via Zelle, you can accept payments through the app. This can include money owed to you by government agencies, schools or companies.

What Are the Pros of Zelle?

Zelle offers several advantages compared with Venmo. Among them are:

  • No fees
  • Availability through more than 1,000 banks and credit unions in the U.S.
  • Quick transfers of money; typically, money sent through Zelle is available to the recipient in a matter of minutes
  • Ability to earn interest on money held in checking or savings accounts tied to Zelle

What Are the Cons of Zelle?

Just as with any app, Zelle has disadvantages. They include:

  • Inability to cancel a payment after it’s been sent if the recipient is enrolled in Zelle
  • No availability of a Zelle-branded debit or credit card
  • Zelle account can’t be linked to a credit card
  • No ability to maintain a cash balance with Zelle

When To Use Zelle

If you need to send or receive money fast, Zelle might be your go-to cash app. Beyond that, though, the Zelle app isn’t an all-around utility player in the same way that the Venmo app is.

How Does Venmo Work?

Some people might think Venmo is simply a Zelle clone. It’s not. Yes, Venmo lets you send and receive money, much as Zelle does—to pay your best friend for your portion of a joint gift you gave or to cover your half of the monthly rent, for example.

But Venmo is more flexible than Zelle is. For instance, a Venmo user can:

  • Use Venmo’s Mastercard debit card to make purchases in the U.S.
  • Buy from Venmo partners through apps and mobile websites
  • Make an in-store purchase with Venmo using a QR code
  • Directly deposit your paycheck into your Venmo account and access the money up to two days before your normal payday

You must meet three basic requirements to get a Venmo account:

  1. Be at least 18 years old (in most cases)
  2. Be located in the U.S.
  3. Have a U.S. cell phone that can send and receive text messages using short codes; U.S. short codes are five- or six-digit numbers used to send and receive text messages

Venmo’s app is available from the App Store and Google Play. Owned by PayPal, Venmo had more than 80 million users as of November 2021.

Unlike Zelle, Venmo does charge for some services. Its basic offerings are free, with no monthly or annual fees. These include sending money from a linked bank account, linked debit card or Venmo account, and making a regular transfer to your linked bank account.

But premium features come at a price. Want to use your credit card to send money to somebody? You’ll pay a 3% fee. Want to instantly transfer money from your Venmo account to a linked bank account or debit card? You’ll have to pay a 1.5% fee (minimum 25 cents, maximum ).

What Are the Pros of Venmo?

  • No monthly or annual fees
  • Ability to use Venmo app for online or in-store purchases
  • Availability of Venmo-branded debit and credit cards
  • Ability to maintain a cash balance in Venmo account
  • App’s social media-style features may appeal to some users

What Are the Cons of Venmo?

  • Fees for some services
  • Privacy may be compromised unless you adjust privacy settings
  • Money is unavailable instantly unless you pay a fee
  • No ability to earn interest on money on money deposited with Venmo
  • Transaction limits, such as a weekly maximum of ,999.99 for person-to-person payments (Zelle also has some transaction limits, but they’re set by your bank or credit union, not by Zelle.)

When To Use Venmo

If you’re seeking more flexibility, then Venmo might be a better choice than Zelle. That’s because Venmo’s offerings are more extensive, such as the ability to make in-store and online purchases. It’s an especially attractive app if a lot of your friends and family already use the app.

But whereas the Zelle app charges no fees, the Venmo app adds fees for several features. Plus, you might not gain access to cash as quickly as you might with the Zelle app.

Are Zelle and Venmo Safe To Use?

Generally speaking, Zelle and Venmo are safe to use. Both incorporate security features into their apps, such as data encryption, purchase verification, multifactor authentication and fraud protection. Also, both Zelle and Venmo stress that you should send money only to trusted recipients, not strangers, to avoid being ripped off.

Despite these safeguards, users of Zelle and Venmo are susceptible to being victimized by scammers.

In October 2021, the federal Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) put providers of payment technology on notice that their business practices are coming under greater scrutiny, in part to shield consumers from payment fraud.

“Scammers use mobile payment services to trick people into sending money or merchandise without holding up their end of the deal. For example, a scammer may sell you concert or sports tickets but then never actually give them to you,” the CFPB warns. “Or a scammer might purchase an item from you, appear to send a payment and then cancel it before it reaches your bank account.”

Among other steps, the bureau suggests setting up password, PIN or fingerprint capabilities on an app like Zelle or Venmo to add an extra layer of protection.

Bottom Line

Neither Zelle nor Venmo is a bad option for digital payments. Both function well as cash apps. The choice between Zelle and Venmo boils down to what you want a cash app to do for you—with Venmo being more robust than Zelle—and whether you’d rather pay no fees at all (Zelle) or you’re comfortable paying fees for premium offerings (Venmo).
