A Subpar App Experience

Although Barclays is a reliable online bank, their mobile app leaves much to be desired. The clunky login process is frustrating, especially considering its advertised Face ID capability, which still requires manual input of your login and password. Recently, the Home Screen fails to load, even with the latest updates installed. Once inside, functionality is basic, limited to basic balance checks, check deposits, and immediate transfers to other Barclays accounts or previously linked external accounts. Advanced features such as scheduling transfers or adding new external accounts are not available. The dated user interface pales in comparison to competing apps from Citi or Chase, leaving us disappointed.

Good Bank, Mediocre App

As a self-made savant, checking on my account balance makes my day. Unfortunately, the Barclays US Savings mobile app fails me in this regard. I am shown my available balance, not my actual balance, which is often placed on hold for a week without explanation. Even more frustrating is the inability to set my default screen to reflect my real balance. Barclays, I appreciate your services and interest rates, but in today's world, we crave instant satisfaction, which includes seeing our deposits immediately. A bonus feature would be seeing graphical representations of my monthly, yearly, and lifetime savings performance.

The most unsatisfactory finance app I’ve ever come across

As someone who regularly uses close to a dozen apps related to finance, I can say with confidence that this is the worst among the lot. Its user interface is horrendously designed, and navigating its features is an agonizing experience. But that isn't even the worst part. The app is infested with countless bugs, which trigger random errors, making it extremely unreliable. Moreover, it has failed to recognize that I do not have TouchID, while not providing support for FaceID that has been around for years now. To log in, I am forced to endure a cumbersome two-step password authentication process, that unlike other apps, doesn't pull my password from my keychain.

It has gotten so terrible that for the last week, I have not been able to access the app at all. Each time I try to log in, I'm faced with an error message. I even tried deleting and reinstalling the app, but with no luck.

Worse still, given such glaring inadequacies, I cannot help but feel how vulnerable my private information might be. How many security loopholes are there lurking behind the scenes that we are yet to know of?

The developer of this app, Barclays Bank Delaware, has already made it clear that the app's privacy practices may involve the handling of data. This will be accompanied by a privacy policy that you can familiarize yourself with.

A few of the types of data they collect and link to your identity include location, identifiers, and diagnostics. Financial and contact information, usage, and user content are other types of data that may also be collected. But the good news is, they don't link this data to your name or identity.
